Where will this course lead?
Who is this course for?
If you are looking for an A level equivalent course which will equip you with the knowledge and skills for professional training or higher education study within the construction industry, then the Level 3 BTEC Diploma in Construction could be for you. It offers a combination of theory and practical skills which can lead to careers in areas such as architecture, land surveying, building control, civil or structural engineering and building management.
What will I study?
Subjects you study include: Core Units: all five units must be taken
Health, Safety and Welfare in Construction
Construction and the Environment
Mathematics in Construction
Science and Materials in Construction
Construction Technology and Design
You will study at total of 18 units Specialist Units including
Building Technology in Construction
Planning, Organisation and Control of Resources in Construction
Graphical Detailing in Construction
Surveying in Construction
Building Surveying in Construction
Further units will be selected for the second year to provide students with as much general knowledge of the construction industry as possible.
How will this course be delivered?
This course is predominantly classroom based with units such as Surveying in Construction taking place outside.
What qualifications will I get?
BTEC Subsidiary Diploma in Construction and the Built Environment (QCF)
How will I be assessed?
The course is assessed through written assignments which are assessed and graded during your course as well as practical observation and written tests. If you successfully complete all units, you will be awarded a BTEC National Diploma in Construction. This is the equivalent of three A levels.
How do I get a place on the course?
Apply on line at www.solihull.ac.uk or at Student Services either at the Blossomfield Road or Woodlands Campus.
If successful, places are offered after interview at Blossomfield Campus.
What are the entry requirements?
You need a minimum of four GCSEs at Grade A - C including Mathematics & English Language or an equivalent qualification such as a BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Construction or Engineering at Merit Level. If you are a mature student without these qualifications but with a commitment to the subject and relevant work experience, your application will be considered on an individual basis. A place on the course is subject to a successful interview and you will also be expected to provide a suitable reference.
