Introduction
- On completion of the course you will gain a widely recognised level 3 Teaching Assistant diploma. The course is ideal for anyone who already holds a Level 2 qualification in a Child Care related subject or has completed a Level 2 Teaching Assistant course.
What will be covered in the course?
- There are 11 mandatory units, plus optional units. Mandatory units include: Understand child and young people's development. Health and Safety Support learning activities Communication Schools as organisations Promote equality, diversity and inclusion in work with children and young people Optional units include: Support learners with additional needs Support children and young people with transitions in their lives. Support literacy and numeracy development.

Entry Requirements
All students interested in this course must hold Level 2 Literacy and Numeracy qualifications (O Level, GCSE Grade C, National test Level 2 or the equivalent). Students must be aged 18+.
What qualification(s) can be gained?
Level 3 Diploma in Specialist Support for Teaching and Learning in Schools.
How is the course assessed?
Assessment will be made on the standard of your portfolio and performance on your placement. You will be observed on two occasions and feedback will be requested from the school concerned to complete this part of the evaluation.
Additional costs
- You will be required to pay for an Enhanced Certificate of Disclosure (CRB Check), which is arranged via Solihull College.
Attendance and additional study hours
- Both daytime and evening classes are both available. Daytime: 1 day per week for 5 hours for the duration of the course. Evening: 1 evening per week for 4 hours with additional supplementary work to be undertaken at home. A work placement is also required in a school environment for at least 1 day per week for the duration of the course. Additional workshop are provided at various times - these are compulsory.
Further information
A one day per week placement in an educational establishment is required for the duration of the course. However, some students are in full or part time employment within a school during the academic year of study. Students are required to build a portfolio of evidence gained during this time. Solihull College offers full time and part time courses for businesses and residents in Birmingham, Walsall, Wolverhampton, Coventry Warwickshire and the whole of the West Midlands.
