Mayor praises students for creative conservation task
The Mayor of Solihull, Councillor Norman Davies, praises Solihull College students as they create a garden wonderland for local primary school children.
A group of students on the College’s Prince’s Trust programme have been working tirelessly for the last two weeks to transform the conservation area at Hatchford Brook Junior and Infant School in Elmdon.
The group were congratulated by the Mayor earlier this week at the opening of the new look area which now includes a secret garden complete with bird boxes, wind chimes, mosaics and a hedgehog house, as well as seating areas. The team has also renovated the School’s pond.
All of the materials used were either recycled or donated by local companies.
The Mayor of Solihull, Councillor Norman Davies has been impressed by the group’s work: “The Prince’s Trust team has worked exceedingly hard to produce a most interesting and peaceful garden area from what used to be a derelict piece of land. I congratulate all of the young people for the hard work they have put in and the originality of their ideas. The School must be delighted and I’ m sure it will bring much enjoyment to the children in future years. “
Mrs Read-Law, Interim Head at Hatchford Brook, is also delighted with the transformation: “Thank you so much to the students and to Vanessa Morris who led the team for working so hard to create a wonderful conservation area that will benefit children throughout the school.”
The Prince’s Trust programme is a 12 week-long personal development course open to 16 - 25 year olds. Anyone interested in the programme can call Solihull College on 0121 678 7496 or visit www.solihull.ac.uk for more details.
