Where will this course lead?

This course provides students with the knowledge and skills to configure Active Directory Domain Services in a distributed environment, implement Group Policies, perform backup and restore, and monitor and troubleshoot Active Directory related issues.

Students who satisfy the minimum pass level, for the above vendor exam(s), as defined by Microsoft at the time of taking the online exam, will be awarded the following:-

This course is available to study in daytime or evening sessions.

Vocational study not leading to a recognised qualification, Information and Communication Technology (SSA 6)

How will I be assessed?

There is no formal examination required; however students may take the external Microsoft examination, typically three weeks from end of course.

Examinations must be taken at our in-house Authorised Prometric testing centre (APTC) at Specialist IT Training. APTC Site code GB3K.

The course includes continual assessments.

What are the entry requirements?

The primary audience for this course are AD Technology Specialists, Server Administrators, and Enterprise Administrators who want to learn how to implement AD in a distributed environment, secure domains using Group Policies, and perform backup, restore, and monitor and troubleshoot AD configuration to ensure trouble free operation.

The Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS) on Windows Server 2008 credentials are intended for information technology (IT) professionals who work in the complex computing environment of medium to large companies. The MCTS candidate should have at least one year of experience implementing and administering Windows Server 2008 R2 in an environment that has the following characteristics:
250 to 5,000 or more users
multiple physical locations, multiple domain controllers
network services and resources such as messaging, databases, file and print, firewalls, Internet access, an intranet, Public Key Infrastructure, remote access, remote desktop, virtualization, and client computer management
connectivity requirements such as connecting branch offices and individual users in remote locations to corporate resources, and connecting corporate networks

Before attending this course, students must have:
Basic understanding of networking.
Intermediate understanding of network operating systems.
An awareness of security best practices.
Basic knowledge of server hardware.
Some experience creating objects in Active Directory.
Basic concepts of backup and recovery in a Windows Server Environment.
Or completed MTA: Windows Server Administration Fundamentals course.
