Aanu has dreamed of studying medicine following a life changing event as a child when she suffered a serious burns injury.
“I have wanted to study medicine since I was a child and I now have the chance to realise my ambitions. After being ill as a child and finding inspiration after reading a book by Dr Ben Carson, an African/American who became a pediatric neurosurgeon despite coming from a poor background, I decided that a career in medicine was for me.”
After completing her A Levels last year, Aanu enrolled on a BTEC National Diploma in Computing at Solihull College and has become a popular member of her class. She balances her studies with voluntary work with McMillan Nurses where she uses her IT expertise to support their valuable work and she has completed other volunteer projects serving in hospitals in Nigeria and also at the Manor Hospital in Walsall. She has enjoyed her time at Solihull College and will take many happy memories with her. She says:
"I love the freedom one gets at College and I've made lots of friends staying at the College's halls of residence. The lecturers have been a great help and the support they have given me has been terrific."Hide
