Solihull College give Birmingham based school pupils a lesson in retail.
A group of year eleven students from Queensbridge Secondary School in Moseley attended a special retail workshop at the College recently where they were given an insight into the industry and the careers available within it.
The group explored all aspects of retail from front of house, including sales and customer service, to what goes on behind the scenes such as producing and marketing goods.
The session was organised by the College’s Employer Services team and led by Solihull based Body Shop Manager Elaine O’Connor who talked to the pupils about the rewards on offer in a retail career.
Elaine, who has taken on a number of Retail Apprentices through the College said: “It’s important that young people have access to information about the different career opportunities available to them when they leave education. It’s very rewarding talking to young people about my line of work and letting them know about the opportunities that retail can offer. We’ve had some great apprentices through the College and look forward to meeting even more in the future.”
Solihull College is a member of the National Skills Academy for Retail - the UK’s largest retail training network, and works closely with retailers across the West Midlands to provide staff training including specialised apprenticeship programmes for 16-18 year olds.
