Money matters
Solihull College students get money saving tips from banking giant Barclays.
Students on the College’s Prince’s Trust programme have taken part in the Money Skills programme – an initiative led by Barclays Bank and the national charity Groundwork to help young people aged 16-25 manage money more effectivley.
The group of students attended a series of workshops where they learned how to budget and save money by taking part in games, quizzes and group discussions.
Vanessa Morris, from the College’s Prince’s Trust team has hailed the project a success: “Our students have really benefitted from the Money Skills programme, it’s made them realise how much they spend on unnecessary items on a day to day basis. It’s also opened their eyes to the price of consumables these days and better ways to save and spend their money.”
Craig Green, Project Officer for Groundwork adds: “With the current economic down turn, young peope will be further hindered with already restricted financial resources at their disposal. This scheme will increase disadvantaged young people’s ability to deal with money issues and will also help them develop confidence and life skills.”
