Mr T tells students to ‘Stay On Course’
A theatrical performance featuring popular TV personality ‘Mr T’ encourages students at Solihull College to Stay on Course.
A touring theatre production organised through Aimhigher – an initiative which encourages and supports young people into higher education, took place at the College recently to address a range of issues that may be affecting first year students.
The interactive performance of ‘Stay on Course’ was presented by actors from Impact Universal. It followed the story of three characters who each drop out of college after facing problems with their money, assignments, part-time employment and motivation to learn.
The show impersonates ‘Mr T’ as a motivational guru who gives the characters a glimpse into their future where they discover that their prospects would have been better had they stayed on at College.
Performing Arts student Melissa Thom was impressed by the production: “It was really interesting and addressed issues that most students probably think about, but don’t openly talk about, “she said. “The characters were funny too which helped get the message across even more.”
The College’s Aimhigher Officer, Kate Hurd, who organised the show for students said: “It’s important that we address the issues that may discourage young people from furthering their education and work with them to find solutions. Aimhigher is about encouraging young people to aspire to higher education and to make positive decisions about their future. ”
