New Development School for Basketball
July 13th 2009
A new Development School for those who have a serious interest in basketball will be launched by Solihull College next term, as the sports department sets up its first basketball academy.
The basketball academy will be run by Steven Mroso, a former international British Basketball League player, who is also an experienced coach.
Steven Mroso, Head Basketball Coach at Solihull College, said:
“In recent years there’s been a surge of interest in basketball locally, which is why I’ve been in talks with the College to lead the coaching of this new Development School.
"The course caters to mixed abilities, so I’m not expecting anyone to slam dunk a ball from one end of the court to the other, as this course is about untapped potential. It’s about finding your strengths, developing your skills and appreciating the importance of balance in the game.
"This is a fantastic opportunity for people who are serious about improving their skills, and combining it with a conventional course. I’m really looking forward to getting people through the door and onto the court.”
The programme begins on Monday 7th September 2009.
Richard Deane, Head of Sport at Solihull College, said:
“The fact that we have a highly experienced coach on board shows how serious we are about delivering a top quality programme which can be paired with another subject. The ideal is to take someone with raw talent and convert them into a national basketball league player. Our aim is to become the number one basketball College team in Solihull.”
