Where will this course lead?
This award is designed to provide you with practical skills and knowledge that is relevant for the role of a veterinary nurse in a modern Veterinary Practice. The diploma qualification leads to professional registration and a licence to practise. It is a requirement of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons Regulatory Bye-laws that such qualifications be subject to independent assessment and examination.
What will I study?
There are two pathways for this course either
Small animals or Equine both of which have core and optional units.
Maths, English and IT will be an important part of your course. You will continue to develop these skills and will work towards a qualification at an appropriate level.
How will this course be delivered?
If you are on work experience with a veterinary practice you will attend College three days a week. If you are in placement at a veterinary practice you will be in College two days a week.
What qualifications will I get?
Diploma in Veterinary Nursing (QCF)
How will I be assessed?
The course is assessed using a variety of methods; knowledge and understanding through independently assessed assignments and examinations. RCVS external examinations. Work based progress log (NPL) for clinical skills. RCVS OSCE examination of essential clinical skills.
How do I get a place on the course?
You will need to attend an interview.
What are the entry requirements?
Minimum qualifications for this course are
Five GCSE passes at Grade A-C to include Science , English Language and Maths. Plus two further subjects.
To support your application you will need a suitable character or tutor reference and a copy of your latest school report (if applicable)

What can I do after this course?
This course can form part of a suite of qualifications to lead into higher education either to advance veterinary nursing (degree) or specialised veterinary nursing.
