Introduction:
Abuse is something that goes on in our community to the most vulnerable people in our society. These are usually children. You don't have to be an expert to recognise the indicators that may suggest an child is suffering or likely to suffer from abuse
By having a basic knowledge of being able to recognise the signs of abuse, Knowing how to deal with it, report it and the process that follows, a member of staff can have the confidence to deal with situation when it arises.
Abuse can be physical, psychological, sexual, neglect and discriminatory. The course will look at what abuse is and how it can be recognised in the working
environment or the community within which we live.
It will provide participants with the knowledge of what is involved in reporting a concern within your own policy and externally with the relevant public sector
agencies
After attending this course participants will have the ability to:
- Be aware of relevant legislation.
- Understand definitions of Vulnerability and Abuse within the Iaw.
- Be able to understand the different types of abuse.
- Be able to recognise risk factors and possible indicators of abuse.
- Be able to respond sensitively and appropriately to a disclosure, concern or allegation.
- Understand what information should be gathered and recorded.
- Understand what evidence needs to be protected and preserved.
- Understand how to report concerns internally.
