Where will this course lead?

This course is ideal for you if want develop your sewing skills and be able to alter garments yourself at home.

What will I study?

Plan and produce garments
Develop skills in pattern cutting
Measuring
Sewing styles
Fabrics
Gain confidence using sewing machines and other sewing equipment

How will this course be delivered?

The course practically based and is designed so that students are enabled to work on individual projects. The delivery is lead by tutor demonstration.

What qualifications will I get?

Non-externally-certificated non-FE other provision, Crafts, Creative Arts and Design SSA (09.2)

How will I be assessed?

This course is for personal development and is informally assessed by the Tutor with self assessment and evaluation by the student.

What are the entry requirements?

You must be aged 16+

If you have Learning Difficulty or Disability please let us know when you apply. You will be offered support in your interview. If you need help completing your application we can help with this too.

What else do I need to know?

The tutor will inform you on the first session of any tools and equipment that are required. They will also have a list of suppliers where these will be available. Sewing machines are available for student use while at the centre.

Solihull College offers full time and part time courses for businesses and residents in Birmingham, Walsall, Wolverhampton, Coventry Warwickshire and the whole of the West Midlands.

What can I do after this course?

Progress to Dressmaking, Patchwork and Quilting, Soft Furnishings and Interior Design in Community or to Fashion design and Garment Making at main campus

Is there anything else I will have to pay for in order to do this course?

Students are responsible for providing their own materials and books.
