Sharon is flying high
Having a change of career may be daunting for some, but for Solihull College student Sharon Humphreys it is a childhood dream, as she embarks on a new career with BMI Baby.
Sharon, who turns 48 next month, has spent the majority of her working life as a freelance beauty and fitness consultant, providing a unique service to employees in various corporate businesses across the region.
But after raising two boys, who are now 22 and 17, she decided to pursue her dream of becoming an air stewardess and enrolled on the BTEC Level 3 in Air Cabin Crew and Aviation Operations at Solihull College in September.
After successfully taking part in an assessment day in December, Sharon has secured a cabin crew role with BMI Baby, which she begins in March after four weeks of training.
Sheldon-based Sharon comments: “I am absolutely thrilled to have got a job with BMI Baby and I’m really excited about starting my new career. I have wanted to be an air stewardess since the age of 16 but for various reasons it wasn’t something I was able to pursue. The course at Solihull College was recommended to me and I am so glad I decided to enrol. It has been fantastic in allowing me to gain an insight into the industry and provide me with the necessary knowledge to succeed in my interview.”
Based out of Birmingham Airport, Sharon will be working for BMI Baby flying to their short-haul destinations.
Her course tutor Ian Boulton comments: “I am extremely proud of Sharon and I know she will excel in her new job. She has demonstrated an enormous amount of enthusiasm and passion for the course and this has enabled her to succeed in gaining her dream job so quickly.”
The BTEC Level 3 Air Cabin Crew and Aviation Operations is a one-year course which covers modules including airline health, safety and security on the ground and in the air, ramp handling and operations, and aircraft emergency situations, amongst others.
