Where will this course lead?
A Level Sociology provides a knowledge and understanding of the social processes and social change that affects our everyday lives. On completion of the course you will be able to analyse and evaluate sociological ideas and debate contemporary social issues.
What will I study?

Sociological Theory

How will this course be delivered?
There will be four taught sessions per week totalling five hours of tuition as part of an A Level programme. The course includes theoretical and active learning.
What qualifications will I get?
GCE AS Level in Sociology
How will I be assessed?
Each unit is assessed by written examination, marked by the examination board.
How do I get a place on the course?
A level programme application and interview.
What are the entry requirements?
A-Levels are part of a 2 year full time programme which will require 5 GCSEs at grade C or above, generally from national Curriculum subjects and normally including both English and Mathematics and an average point score of 5. Also a successful interview where we will require current academic references and reports.
Subject specific requirements for Sociology include GCSE Grade C or above in English and Mathematics.
What else do I need to know?
In addition to 5 hours class contact per week there is the additional requirement of four hours per week self-study.
Solihull College offers full time and part time courses for businesses and residents in Birmingham, Walsall, Wolverhampton, Coventry Warwickshire and the whole of the West Midlands.
What can I do after this course?
A Level Sociology lays an appropriate foundation for further study of Sociology and related subjects in higher education. Equally material studied would be useful for careers in the public services, human resources and other settings involving a high volume of work with people.
Is there anything else I will have to pay for in order to do this course?
Students will be required to purchase a recommended text book.
All students will be required to make set contributions towards educational trips and/or travel expenses to local universities for master classes.
