Solihull College celebrates Black History Month
Solihull College has been alive with the sound of drums this week in celebration of Black History Month (BHM).
Students across the College’s Blossomfield and Woodlands Campuses have been enjoying a host of free activities this week including African drumming, carnival mask making, Brazilian dance workshops as well as mendhi art classes to mark BHM- which aims to highlight and celebrate the history and culture of the African, Caribbean and Asian communities.
An art exhibition of Black Heroes has also been on display at both campuses to give students an insight into some of the most influential figures in the Black community including Nelson Mandela and Bob Marley.
The celebration event takes place at the College each year and is organised through the Student Liaison team.
Laura Pibworth, the team Coordinator, said: “It’s great that once again, staff and students have come together to celebrate Black History Month and taken the opportunity to learn more about the achievements of the African, Asian and Caribbean communities. The success of this event continues to grow each year and we would like to thank everyone who has taken part.”
