Students get hard-hitting facts about dangerous driving
Officers from West Midlands Fire Service pay a visit to Solihull College as part of a campaign to keep young drivers safe on the road.
Officers stopped by at the College to talk to students about safe driving and to encourage them to act responsibly behind the wheel.
As part of the visit, students were given a presentation about the disastrous affects that speeding, drink driving and using mobile phones can have. A wrecked car was also on display to further illustrate the dangers of careless driving.
Sian Tawse, the College’s Health and Safety Officer who organised the visit said: “It’s important that we do all we can to promote road safety to our staff and students. I hope that by illustrating the true dangers of reckless driving, people will think more carefully about their actions behind the wheel.”
Paul Guyver from West Midlands Fire Service who led the presentation comments: “On average, 350 people are killed or injured on UK roads each month. By showing drivers the consequences of irresponsible driving we hope to change that. If our message reaches just one student, then already we’ve made a difference. “
