Solihull College students work alongside professional cabin crew at airline giant KLM.
A group of Travel and Tourism students took to the skies with the airline on a flight to New York recently where they were tasked with serving meals to passengers.
As part of the trip, organised by College Tutor Ian Boulton, the group’s knowledge was put to the test as they faced questions about the aircraft they were travelling on as well as on-board procedures and security.
After the long haul journey the students enjoyed a four-night stay in New York but before they were able to hit the shops, they were set one final task by their tutor. The challenge saw them negotiate their way around a list of the city’s hot spots using just a rail card and camera for photographic evidence.
Tutor Ian Boulton comments: “This trip allows students to put theory into practise and develop the key skills they’ll need to work in the travel industry, they took to the tasks that we set for them really well. Most of the group have travelled by plane before but this was a very different experience for them, it gave them a totally different perspective and I’d like to thank KLM for being a part of that.”
Cabin Crew student Rebecca Donnell adds: “At first we we’re all a bit out of our comfort zones but we soon got into the tasks set for us and really enjoyed them. It was a great experience and one that will put us in good stead for when we leave College.”
