Supporting You
One of the big differences about Solihull College is our focus on you. We provide a wide range of services to make sure you get the help you need to achieve.
Help with learning - The Learning Centres
At Solihull College we recognise every student has his or her own learning style and pace. For instance some students may need extra help with essay writing, revision or mathematics. Our supportive and understanding tutors, based in the Learning Centres, can give you all the help you need to succeed on your chosen course.
The Learning Centre team can provide you with a personal study programme so you can work at your own pace and have support tailored to your needs.
At Solihull College you will never have to struggle alone; we are here to help you achieve the very best results you can.
Contact the Learning Centres on 0121 678 7239 (Blossomfield) or 0121 678 7381 (Woodlands) for more information.
Additional support
Solihull College provides opportunities for students across all subject areas in an inclusive learning environment. The College welcomes applications from people with additional needs. If you are disabled or have any special needs, then our team of support staff is here to help you.
It is very helpful to us if, when you apply to the College, you indicate these needs by ticking the appropriate box on the application form. We will then offer you the appropriate support, following assessment of your individual needs. We are also able to offer confidential advice and help for students with dyslexia.
The Additional Support and Dyslexia Teams can be contacted on 0121 678 7113 or by emailing sandra.read@solihull.ac.uk.
Personal Tutors
You will be assigned a Personal Tutor as soon as you enrol on your course, to provide support, advice, guidance and information during your time at Solihull College. You will meet regularly with your Tutor for individual tutorial sessions where you will devise a learning plan to help with your progress and to identify any areas you need to focus on.
Careers
Help with planning for the future is available to all students. To make sure you choose the career that's right for you, our Careers Team provide invaluable advice on job hunting, local employers, Higher Education, local training schemes and job vacancies. They can also help you to prepare your CV and find you suitable work experience.
The Careers Centre is open between 9am - 5pm Monday - Thursday and 9am - 4pm on Fridays.
Connexions
The Connexions Service works closely with the Careers Centre to provide impartial and confidential advice, guidance and information on training, education, employment and social or personal issues for students aged 13-19.
Students can see Connexions Personal Advisors for one-to-one interviews in our Careers Centre at specified times throughout the week.
You can pop into the centre or telephone 0121 678 7020/7021 for more information.
Counselling Team and College nurse
Our qualified Counselling Team provides students with an opportunity to talk things over in confidence with someone trained to listen. If you have any personal worries or problems, the team is on site every day. The College also employs a dedicated nurse, who is available at certain times throughout the year, for any health issues you may require advice on.
Confidential appointments for both the counsellor and nurse can be booked through the main student reception at the Blossomfield Campus or through your Personal Tutor.
Alternatively, you can telephone the Counselling Team on 0121 678 7219.
