Solihull College celebrates the opening of brand new multimillion pound Art Centre. . .
Peter Lauener, Chief Executive of the Young People’s Learning Agency (YPLA), marked the official opening of the College’s new Art Centre by cutting the ribbon at a launch event last week (Thursday 24th June). The Centre is the most significant stage to be completed so far as part of the ongoing Blossomfield Campus £31million redevelopment.
The new Centre will now provide outstanding facilities for students to study Fine Art, Graphic Design, Photography, Performing Arts and Fashion at the College. It also hosts a large, seated theatre, dance studios, an exhibition area as well as state-of-the art workshops.
The launch was attended by a host of special guests including Senior Directors from NatWest , who have provided financial support for the redevelopment, the Mayor and Mayoress of Solihull and local MP Lorley Burt.
College Principal Brenda Sheils comments: “The opening of the Art Centre marks a milestone in our continued redevelopment and we’re very pleased to be joined by our partners in celebrating this event. We hope that the many students who study with us, currently and in the future, enjoy the exciting facilities that our new Centre boasts.”
Peter Lauener said: “The quality of the new building is inspirational and fitting for the quality of young people’s art that I have seen. I’m delighted to be a part of the opening of Solihull College’s outstanding new Arts Centre which I have no doubt will have a real impact on the lives of the many young people who study here. ”
A new purpose built Management Centre is the next phase of the redevelopment and will be completed next month. It will provide employers and their employees with superb conference facilities and training rooms to support local and regional business development.
Richard Smith Senior Relationship Manager at NatWest adds: “It’s really rewarding to see the successful completion of such a significant phase in this bold and ambitious project. The Art Centre truly is first class and will increase the College’s appeal to students not only from the local area but from further afield also. We look forward to working with the College to continue the success of this unique project.”
