Where will this course lead?
Practical skills in sports massage, health and fitness testing, basic taping and strapping, the application of hot and cold techniques and emergency first aid.
Knowledge and understanding of anatomy and physiology, nutrition, sports injuries and their rehabilitation to support the practical skills they require.
What will I study?
Field based fitness testing for sport and exercise.
Customer service in the sport and active leisure industry
Injuries in sport
Understanding employment rights and responsibilities
Understanding the active leisure learning sector
Emergency first aid
Management of illness and injury activities
Functional anatomy, physiology and nutrition for sports therapists
Applying sports massage methods to non pathological tissue
Applying taping and strapping to support and limit specific movement in sport and leisure
Applying hot and cold techniques in sport and active leisure.
How will this course be delivered?
Assessments is by practical observations, course work and assignments
What qualifications will I get?
Diploma in the Prevention and Management of Sports Injuries (QCF)
How will I be assessed?
The course assessment methods are a variation of practical based work, comprehensive portfolio and written tests/assignments.

A successful interview will be required.

What are the entry requirements?
The qualification is suitable for those employed in beauty therapy, health related services and for those who wish to acquire this particular expertise. Any one of the following pre-requisites:
A VTCT level 2 qualifications or higher that includes a reasonable amount of anatomy and physiology or equivalent qualification.
A VTCT level 2 qualification or higher that includes Swedish massage, remedial massage or body massage.
Other qualifications could be acceptable on approval.

What else do I need to know?
A minimum of 85% attendance is needed to complete the course, however 100% is expected.
Enrichment trips/work experience, talks and demonstrations.

What can I do after this course?
VTCT Level 4 and Level 5 Certificate in Sports Massage Therapy (QCF).

Emergency First aid at work certificate or first aid at work(pre-requisite)
