Induction
After you have been accepted for your First Diploma or National Diploma course you will be asked to attend your first week of college.
This is normally an induction week where you:
- Meet your fellow students
- Meet your tutors
- Receive your induction pack (including timetable and Code of Conduct)
- Take a tour of the college
Your Time Table
For both First Diploma students and National Diploma Students the week includes approximately 15 hours of tutor contact time. This is a full time course consisting of 18 units.
The 15 hours are made up of study periods including practicals in the rehearsal studios, study sessions in the theory rooms and private study.
You may also be called in to meet your personal tutor for pastoral support.
Modules
The courses we provide are broken down into modules; 18 over 2 years for National Diploma students and 9 for First Diploma Students. You need to pass all you modules with a Pass, Merit or Distinction.
The Modules are assessed by practical work in the rehearsal rooms, performances which are recorded and written journals and evaluations.
If you click on the image to the right you will see a list of possible modules you might take for the National Diploma.
Notice that there are Core Modules and other modules. Core Modules are always taken by all students, 6 other modules are selected each year for you to take. This will typically involve Musical Theatre (musicals), Contemporary Theatre (modern acting) and some form of movement; either dance or Physical Theatre (mime, mask, contact work, physical imagery)
End of term Performance
At the end of each term you will have a show where you present your performance work developed in the modules. There are 3 performances per academic year in which you will be involved.
Take a look at our student gallery and videos for examples of past performances.
Matinee and evening performances take place in performance week for each year group and these run at the end of November, the end of February and the beginning of June.
Awards Ceremony
At the end of each academic year we hold an awards ceremony. This is an evening of extracts from previous shows and new sketches followed by awards for our outstanding students in several categories.
Code of Conduct
In your induction pack you will receive a Code of Conduct guide. You will also be required to sign a learning contract on admission.
