Xcellent Results at Xoserve
National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs) are superb for recognising and strengthening work-based competences. They provide training and development and an assessment of skills, knowledge and ability benchmarked against national performance standards which have been set by Industry specialists.
Lorraine Owen and Louise Tulk at Xoserve Limited are just two of the many students for whom NVQ's have been an invaluable part of their learning and development.
Lorraine Owen, Contracts Officer said:
"I've enjoyed completing the Management Level 4 NVQ, which has given me a higher level qualification in this area. Not only has the NVQ given increased recognition to the skills and knowledge that I already have but has also enabled me to build on these for the future. I would certainly recommend it to others. Because the NVQ format is work-based it fits very easily into your day to day working and is fairly flexible with regard to completion, the NVQ took me about 13 months to complete start to finish. It is also great to have an Assessor to see on a regular basis to guide you though the NVQ."
Louise Tulk, Account Administrator said:
"I decided to do a NVQ Level 3 in Management as a way of easing my way back into studying as I have not studied for over 10 years. I was 7 months pregnant when I signed up for the course, and was worried about how I would fit everything in. However the course proved to be very flexible. The support I received from my Assessor was excellent and it was nice to know that she was at the end of an email, as well as one to one meetings. This NVQ has helped me to develop or show case existing skills and given me the encouragement to continue and complete an NVQ Level 4."
Solihull College offers NVQs from Level 1 to Level 5 in a wide range of disciplines, including Team Leading and Management, Business and Administration, Customer Service to name just a few. A World Class Welcome Solihull College has been showing staff at Birmingham International Airport how to provide a world class welcome to its visitors, through its successful Welcome International course.
This intensive one-day course was delivered to airport staff in January 2008, in partnership with Solihull College. It aims to instill a good understanding of how to provide an exceptional welcome to visitors from key international markets. The programme covers effective communication, identifying cultural expectations and tips on providing a first-rate service to customers.

"The ability to understand and communicate with our customers is essential to effective business. The Welcome International course provides cultural awareness and useful phrases in different languages and puts the learning into context with business needs."
