Where will this course lead?

Our City and Guilds Level 2 Apprenticeship is ideal for learners who are looking for that all important work place experience. On completion, this course will have equipped you with the industry knowledge and practical skills required in the workplace. It is also ideal for those currently working in an Animal Care job and wish to gain a qualification.

What will I study?

You will study the following core modules, then you will select with your employer from a range of optional units: - Maintain and develop personal performance - Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others - Promote and maintain the health and well-being of animals - Deliver basic treatments to animals - Select and prepare accommodation for animals - Maintain animal accommodation - Control and restrain animals - Moving animals between locations - Make sure your own actions reduce risks to health and safety

How will this course be delivered?

Following a detailed induction the course will be delivered at your place of work, you will be expected to invest some of your own time to complete knowledge based coursework. Your assessor will regularly arrange to visit you at the workplace in order to assess you.

What qualifications will I get?

Level 2 Diploma in Work-based Animal Care (QCF)

How will I be assessed?

The programme will be assessed within your work place via observation. You will also be assessed through coursework, written papers, oral questions, witness statements from your employer/supervisor and you will need personal home study time.

How do I get a place on the course?

You will need to be in employment or in the process of employment, consider approaching potential employers who will support you for this course. You will be required to attend an interview with your potential employer. Alternatively, search for an apprenticeship via the national apprenticeship website

What are the entry requirements?

There are no formal academic entry requirements. You must not have previous qualifications in Animal Care at level 2 or above. No qualifications at level 4 or above in any subject.

What else do I need to know?

You will undertake an independent initial assessment in form of a short answer assessment to cover underpinning knowledge of Maths and English. Good levels of English and Maths are important for your success in your course, your chosen vocation and life. Throughout your course you will continue to develop your English and Maths skills in your vocational classes. If you haven't achieved an A*/9 - C/4 grade in English or Maths at GCSE, or a Level 2 Functional Skill, you will also be working towards a qualification in English or Maths at a level that will enable you to progress towards these grades. Suitable jobs for this course could be any of the following: Kennel/Cattery assistants, Dog groomers, Farm workers (open or production farms), Hydrotherapy assistants, Retail staff, Animal Wardens, Zoo/Wildlife staff, Rescue centre staff, Animal Technicians, Dog trainer/handlers.
