Where will this course lead?

The many transferable skills that you develop during this course provide a superb foundation for most career pathways. Advanced apprentices, with support and opportunities in the workplace, can progress onto: Higher Apprenticeships in Business, Management & Professional Administration, or higher education to undertake sales related or other qualifications, including foundation degrees, a range of sales management undergraduate programmes and a range of sales professional qualifications at level 4 and above.

With additional training, advanced apprentices may be able to progress in their careers to roles including regional sales manager, senior sales representative, national account controller, export manager, international sales manager, or sales director (CFA, 2016)

What will I study?

The Level 3 ISMM Certificate in Principles of Selling is a knowledge based qualification designed to provide you with the underpinning theory required by sales professionals. Modules include
3K01: Understanding legal, regulatory and ethical requirements in sales or marketing
3K02: Understanding the sales environment
3K03: Understanding sales techniques and processes
3K04: Principles of personal responsibilities and how to develop and evaluate own performance in work
With suggested optional units:
3K13: Competitor analysis in the sales environment
3K09: Customer Service in sales

The Level 3 NVQ Certificate in Sales is a competency qualification that assesses your application of the knowledge in the workplace. In addition to the two units listed below, you will complete a selection of option units which are chosen in accordance with your job role.
- Negotiating, handling objections and closing sales
- Complying with legal, regulatory and ethical requirements in a sales and marketing role

You will also develop valuable skills in English and Maths along with polishing your Personal Learning and Thinking skills.

How will this course be delivered?

The course is delivered via a combination of classroom teaching, practical workshops and independent learning/self- study.
You will attend college for one full day per month (for nine months) and will spend a minimum of 6 hours per week (during working hours) carrying out independent and guided study. This time will be recorded in a learning journal to capture your experiences, reflections and achievements throughout the learning journey.

As an apprentice a vast amount of learning takes place 'on the job' through training and the practical application of your skills, knowledge and behaviours.
You will receive 1:1 support and coaching from an allocated assessor who will visit you in the workplace approx. every 4 weeks.

You may be required to attend Functional Skills workshops for English and Maths depending on your previous achievements. Workshops are approx. 2 hours per week and are available at various times at both college campuses. An e-learning route is also available if you are unable to attend college.

How will I be assessed?

Your assessor will support you to showcase your work in an easy to use e-portfolio. A range of methods will be chosen to assess your vocational knowledge and competence and may include: observations, professional discussions, verbal or written questions, assignments, presentations, work products, reflective accounts, witness testimonies and more!

Functional Skills are assessed via examination - tests are booked throughout the year on demand.

How do I get a place on the course?

Apprenticeship vacancies are advertised on our website and you can follow the instructions to apply online. The vacancies provide detailed information about the employer, the job role, location, hours of work and salary/benefits. As part of the application process you will be asked to create an account with the National Apprenticeship Service (NAS).
After the closing date the employer will choose to interview suitable applicants. We work closely with our employers and will make arrangements to enrol the successful applicant within their first few weeks of work.

What are the entry requirements?

There are no mandatory entry requirements for this apprenticeship framework. However, employers are looking to attract applicants who have strong interpersonal skills and a "can do" attitude. It is likely that advanced apprentices will have some prior experience in a sales or telesales role to allow them to complete the Advanced Apprenticeship, although this is not a formal requirement (CFA, 2016).

All applicants are required to complete initial assessments in English and Maths which ensures fair access to assessment. A minimum of Level 1 in both subjects is normally required. Learners who do not meet this requirement will receive advice and guidance on developing these skills prior to reapplying.

You cannot apply for an Intermediate Apprenticeship in Sales if you already hold a qualification at level 4 (or above) in this subject area or, if you have previously completed a level 3 NVQ or Diploma in Sales or Telesales.

What else do I need to know?

- You must be prepared to invest some of your own time (outside of work) to study towards your apprenticeship
- You will be entitled to apply for an Apprentice NUS card
- You will have full access to all college facilities

What can I do after this course?
