Where will this course lead?

This qualification prepares you for work in the construction industry, with a specific focus on trowel occupations. Upon completion you can apply to CSCS, or other industry card schemes, to gain a skills card that will enable you to work on site in your chosen trade. If you wish to progress to become a supervisor working on site, you may wish to study any of the following qualifications:

- 600/7858/3 Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Trowel Occupations (Construction)
- 601/1899/4 Level 4 NVQ Diploma in Construction Site Supervision (Construction)
- 601/1792/8 Level 6 NVQ Diploma in Construction Site Management (Construction)

What will I study?

- Conforming to general health, safety and welfare in the workplace
- Conforming to productive working practices in the workplace
- Erecting masonry structures in the workplace
- Moving, handling and storing resources in the workplace
- Setting out masonry structures in the workplace
- Erecting masonry cladding in the workplace
- Erecting thin joint masonry structures in the workplace
- Maintaining slate and tile roofing in the workplace
- Producing external solid render finishes in the workplace
- Producing internal solid plastering finishes in the workplace
- Repairing and maintaining masonry structures in the workplace
- Placing and finishing non-specialist concrete in the workplace
- Installing drainage in the workplace

How will this course be delivered?

You will receive comprehensive training at work and attend College on a day-release basis.
This will give you the opportunity to do real work, developing work-based skills that employer's value, helping you to progress in your chosen career.
The College will provide an appointed work placement co-ordinator and assessor who will visit you in your workplace and support and assess how you are progressing. Some of these visits will provide you with evidence that you can use towards your qualification.

You will also be allocated an assessor who will visit you in the workplace to support the development of your vocational skills and End Point Assessment Portfolio.

What qualifications will I get?

Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Trowel Occupations 6570-02

How will I be assessed?

Knowledge learning outcomes will be assessed via externally set on-screen assessments, along with a range of assignments, projects and written assessments covering theory and practical skills.

Workplace skills will be assessed in the workplace and the apprentice will complete a portfolio of evidence that demonstrates their ability against set assessment criteria.

How do I get a place on the course?


Employers can receive advice and support from the Employer Services team at Solihull College and University Centre

What are the entry requirements?

Individual employers will identify any relevant entry requirements in terms of previous qualifications, trainability tests, or other criteria. Most candidates will have English and mathematics at level 2 on entry.

Employers are welcome to engage with our full time learners already studying computing qualifications if they need assistance in recruiting apprentices. Links can be made through the College Employer Services team.
