Where will this course lead?

The aim of an apprenticeship is to prepare you for full time employment. You will have the opportunity to gain industry recognised qualification's and work experience, which may lead to a full time job.

On an apprenticeship you will be an employee and earn a wage. You will work alongside experienced staff in your workplace to gain job-specific skills. You will attend off the job training at College on a day-release basis. Minimum salary is £3.30 however, many apprentices earn significantly more.

What will I study?

Level 2 is ideal for those starting out as, a systems analyst, system support technician, web designer or software developer.

The qualifications are made up of some compulsory units of essential skills plus a wide range of optional units that will be selected to meet the specific job role.

These may include:
- Software development
- Networking
- Hardware
- Web development
- Data analysis
- Software design
- IT User
- Cisco

How will this course be delivered?

An Apprenticeship is a real job with training so you can earn a wage while you learn and pick up some qualifications as you go. To achieve your Apprenticeship you will work towards a combination of qualifications which together are awarded as an Apprenticeship Framework. You will work full time, usually around 37 hours a week, of which one day will be attending day release at Solihull College.

Apprenticeships are designed with employers in the industry, so they offer a structured programme that takes you through the skills you need to do a job well. You will have targets to meet and there will be checks to make sure that your employer is supporting you and you are making good progress.

Functional Skills in English, maths and IT

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed on your practical abilities in your workplace. Workplace assessments may be observations, professional discussions, interviews or inspections of your work. You will also be required to complete assignments and projects and answer written questions. Some course units are assessed by examinations.

How do I get a place on the course?

If you are living in England, are over 16 years-old and do not currently hold a level 4 qualification or above you can apply for an apprenticeship.

What are the entry requirements?

GSCEs in English and maths at C/4 or above, or equivalent. A GCSE in IT is desirable. TEST

What else do I need to know?

The level 2 Computing Apprenticeship takes around 14 months to complete, but this will depend your individual ability, prior qualifications and the employer's training requirements.
