If you are employed or looking for employment within the Hospitality industry in the capacity of a chef assistant, kitchen assistant or catering staff then this Food Production & Cookery services Apprenticeship could be the ideal starting point for you to gain a qualification and bolster your academic credentials while you work, improving both your knowledge of how to prepare and cook food and improving your own job prospects.

What will I study?

A range of subject areas including:

- Employment Rights and Responsibilities

- Food Safety in Catering

- Prepare and cook nutrition meals

- Principles of kitchen documents

- To produce a variety of dishes using different cooking methods

- Portion control

- Working effectively as part of a hospitality team.

How will this course be delivered?

You will be visited by an assessor/tutor in the workplace

What qualifications will I get?

NVQ Diploma in Food Production and Cooking (QCF)

How will I be assessed?

Assessment is by practical observations, course work, assignments and external tests.

How do I get a place on the course?

Places are offered through an informal interview.

What are the entry requirements?

To enrol on the course you must:

- Be employed within the industry

- Reference from current employer

- Assessment of Maths and English.

What else do I need to know?

The Level 2 Apprentice is a rolling programme this means that you can join us any time of the year.

Good levels of English and Maths are important for your success in your course, your chosen vocation and life. Throughout your course you will continue to develop your English and Maths skills in your vocational classes. If you haven't achieved an A*/9 - C/4 grade in English or Maths at GCSE, or a Level 2 Functional Skill, you will also be working towards a qualification in English or Maths at a level that will enable you to progress towards these grades.

This course is aimed at anyone working in or who are seeking to start a career in Hospitality within a kitchen environment. If you have a Learning Difficulty or Disability please let us know when you apply. You will be offered support in your interview. What can I do after this course?

Employment opportunities are numerous and varied, including work as a Commis chef in a number hospitality environments which could include restaurants, hotels and casinos.
