Where will this course lead?

Healthcare support workers will work in the clinical settings and will carry out a variety of well-defined clinical duties under supervision. This includes observations, supporting with the daily activities of living, record keeping and many other activities.
This will be the start of a career in care and can also provide ongoing continuing professional development.

What will I study?

Care certificate- this is a vocational component and will demonstrated through a portfolio of evidence.

Vocational qualification

When your employer and the college confirm that you have completed:

Care certificate
Portfolio of evidence within the last 3 months
Attempted the Level 2 functional skills exam

How will this course be delivered?

You will be required to attend one day a week for thirteen months at college.
You will be expected to undertake self-study and be able to evidence this.
You will be required to use an electronic portfolio system to collate your evidence.

How will I be assessed?

Combinations of methods are used to assess vocational competence and knowledge. Methods include work-based assessments, questions and answers, discussions, written work, e-evidence, observations and portfolio building.
Multiple choice test
An observation of practice undertaken in the workplace
An evidence portfolio completed by the apprentice with an interview

How do I get a place on the course?

 

Employers can receive advice and support from the Employer Services team at Solihull College and University Centre.

What are the entry requirements?

You must have achieved level 1 Functional skill in Maths and English. You will also achieve a certificate programme with the college prior to enrolment onto an apprenticeship.
You will be in paid employment within the care sector in a suitable role.
You will have undertaken the Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service process within the workplace.
