Where will this course lead?

The Level 2 Technical Certificate in Make-up Artistry is aimed at learners that are looking to start a career as a make-up artist. Learners could progress into employment, onto an Apprenticeship, or further their studies by taking other qualifications at Level 3 including the Level 3 Advanced Technical Diploma in Theatrical, Special Effects and Media Make-up Artistry.

What will I study?

The programme consists of the following topics:
- Working in the make-up industry
- Anatomy & physiology
- Research, develop and showcase designs
- The art of applying makeup
- Hair artistry
- Creative make-up artistry
Learners may study GCSE or functional skills Maths and /or English as an important part of the course
Work experience of a minimum of 30 hours
Independent learning at home completing activities set by tutor

How will this course be delivered?

Full time programme based at Blossomfield and Woodlands campus

What qualifications will I get?

Level 2 Technical Certificate in Make-up Artistry
Maths and/or English qualification (if required)

How will I be assessed?

Continual assessment throughout the course followed by an externally marked exam and externally moderated practical assessment day towards the end of the programme.

How do I get a place on the course?

Attend an interview bringing an up to date reference, school report and predicted grades.
Bring a piece of work to the interview researching either a job role in the make-up industry or a make-up brand.
Attend an induction day in June and induction days in September.

What are the entry requirements?

Two grade 3’s or above (one must be English Language) (D or above in the old GCSE grades).
Good attitude, keen, enthusiastic and positive.
Positive reference from school/college or workplace.

What else do I need to know?

You will need to purchase a kit and uniform.
You will need to be flexible and able to carry out work experience in your own time.

What can I do after this course?

You can progress onto the Level 3 Diploma in Hair and Media Make-Up or work within a beauty salon as a make-up specialist or freelance make-up artist or within department store for a cosmetic company.
