Where will this course lead?

This course is ideal if you are a beginner or already have some knowledge and experience in this field, for example, you know how to cover a cake and cake drum with sugar paste.

What will I study?

Autumn Term - You will make a traditional sponge cake with modelling techniques suitable for varying levels of ability. You will also learn how to make a novelty Halloween cake and a Christmas cake with basic modelling skills leading to more intricate skills for the more experienced. You will also learn how to make inexpensive modelling paste.

Winter Term - Develop your skills further by learning more complex and intricate modelling skills. You will make a Valentine's and Easter/Spring cake incorporating several new skills such as sugarcraft flowers and using more advanced cutters and moulds. 

Summer Term - You will widen your skills by making novelty cakes and other celebration cakes suitable for birthdays or weddings. This will also include more methodical modelling techniques.

How will this course be delivered?

Practical class based work lead by tutor demonstration; some designs may have to be completed at home.

What qualifications will I get?

This is a personal enrichment programme.

How will I be assessed?

This course is for personal development and is informally assessed by the tutor with self-assessment and evaluation by the student.

What are the entry requirements?

Students must be aged 19+.

What else do I need to know?

The tutor will inform you on the first session of any tools and equipment that are required.

The tutor will also have a list of suppliers where these will be available. You can use ready-made cakes or dummies to decorate. 

Please note: Materials are not supplied for Cakes, Flowers/Floristry, Textiles, Soft Furnishings, Homemade Crafts, Calligraphy, Art, Cookery, Tiling, Painting & Decorating, Sewing or Dressmaking.
Students are responsible for providing their own ingredients and some equipment.
