Where will this course lead?

This course is ideal for you if you are a new first line manager or are hoping to become a first line manager in the near future. It provides a range of knowledge and skills required to carry out this role.

What will I study?

During this course, you will study the following:

- Understanding the communication process in the workplace
- Understanding how to motivate to improve performance
- Solving problems and making decisions
- Understanding innovation and change in an organisation
- Planning change in the workplace
- Understanding leadership
- Understanding conflict management in the workplace

How will this course be delivered?

Sessions contain a combination of individual and group work, including discussions, case studies, presentations, debates, research, workshops and tutorials.

What qualifications will I get?

Institute of Leadership and Management/Chartered Management Institute Level 3 Certificate in Leadership and Management

How will I be assessed?

To obtain this qualification you will be expected to attend regularly and pass seven written assignments.

How do I get a place on the course?

Places are offered by interview only (telephone or face-to-face).

What are the entry requirements?

Whilst there are no formal entry requirements you should be able to:

- Benefit from the programme (i.e. it should be part of a planned approach to your managerial development)

- Be able to complete the assignments (this would assume some basic skills in written communication and mathematics and the ability to access appropriate information within your organisation)

What else do I need to know?

You are required to attend the college for three hours a week (in the evening) for seventeen weeks.
