Where will this course lead?

The IT Essentials: PC Hardware and Software course will cover the fundamentals of computer technology as well as advanced concepts. It is designed for students who want to pursue careers in ICT and students who want to gain practical knowledge of how a computer works.
Students who complete this course will be able to describe the internal components of a computer, assemble a computer system, install an operating system, and troubleshoot using system tools and diagnostic software. Students will also be able to connect to the Internet and share resources in a network environment. Additional topics covered include laptops and portable devices, wireless connectivity and basic implementation skills, Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), security, safety and environmental issues, applied network configuration
and troubleshooting skills, and communication skills.

Exclusive student access to the CISCO 'Netacad' online training and resources. The course will teach students, through lectures, discussions, scenarios, demonstrations and labs using CISCO packet tracer.

Microsoft Dreamspark enables students to download Microsoft operating systems and applications to create and develop their own practice lab environments, for your academic use only. Conditions and systems requirements apply.

Tailored individual learning plans, with one-one support and guidance from our Trainers / mentors.

This course is available to study in the evening, over 20 sessions. Learners may re-enrol on course to extend their period of study.

What qualifications will I get?

Vocational study not leading to a recognised academic qualification.

You will be tested throughout the progress of your online training and at its completion if successful you will be awarded the CISCO IT Essentials certificate.
Students may also elect to take the CompTIA A Plus exam(s) at a relevant test centre.

Learners must be over 19.

Before attending this course, students must have an understanding of computer networks and be a proficient user of a PC.

This course provides an appropriate entry point to a future career in technology and assumes some hands-on experience or training but does not assume on-the-job experience.
