Where will this course lead?

The course is aimed at anyone who is setting up a website or developing web content as well as those interested in getting a better understanding of the many technologies used to deliver web content.

What will I study?

Getting started with PHP and MySql
- This module introduces the use of PHP and MySQL to query, and update data in a relational database in web-based solutions that can deliver powerful, real-world applications power over an intranet, extranet or the Internet. Using Adobe Dreamweaver Creative Suite the course is ideal for intermediate level Web designers and Web developers. This is not an in-depth PHP programming course.

- Foundation course, to learn to program in PHP, a widespread language that powers websites.

- Foundation course, learn to communicate with databases using SQL, the standard data-management language

JavaScript & JQuery
- Learn the fundamentals of JavaScript, the programming language of the Web.
Learn how to make your websites interactive and create animations by using jQuery.

Additional web authoring modules include:
- Web Developer Coding Tools
This module shows technologies and tools available for building a website. Students will gain experience of building professional web content using the latest technologies, such as Microsoft Visual Studio Express, Dreamweaver CS and pure HTML editors.

HTML5 & CSS Fundamentals
- Learn the fundamentals of HTML5 & CSS3 programming, including concepts about web page markup structure, cascading style sheets (CSS) and HTML5 features.

Web Development / Testing Server
- Learn the fundamentals of installing and using a web development / testing server. Allowing you to develop and test your website solution, using Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) or Xampp with Apache, PHP and MySQL database.

This course includes hands-on practice exercise's in our Academy lab facility that assist students in becoming proficient in the skills needed to develop web content.

This course includes self-paced and instructor-facilitated components. This course teaches students, through lectures, discussions, scenarios, demonstrations and exercises.

This course offers hands-on practice labs in our Academy lab facility workshops that assist students in becoming proficient in the skills needed to develop modern websites.

Microsoft Dreamspark (formally MSDN AA) enable students to download Microsoft operating systems and applications to create and develop their own practice lab environments, for your academic use only. Conditions and systems requirements apply.

Tailored individual learning plans, with support and guidance from our experienced tutors.

This course is available to study in the evening, over 12 sessions. Learners may re-enrol on course to extend their period of study.

What qualifications will I get?

Vocational study not leading to a recognised academic qualification.

How will I be assessed?

The course includes continual assessments throughout the course with both practical and quiz exercises. Course certificates of completion are provided.

How do I get a place on the course?

Places are offered by interview, subject to meeting the entry requirements.

What are the entry requirements?

Learners must be over 19.

There are no prerequisites for this course; however some course modules require prior knowledge or completion of other modules in the 'Web Design & Authoring', course pack.

Delegates should have some technical experience, a working knowledge of the
Windows operating environment and be familiar with the concepts and use of the Internet. Some HTML knowledge would be helpful although not essential.

This course provides an appropriate entry point to a future career in web development and assumes some hands-on experience or training but does not assume on-the-job experience.

What else do I need to know?

Student should have access to the appropriate version of WordPress.

Students will be provided access to Microsoft Visual Studio via Microsoft Dreamspark.

This course is not eligible for fee concession.
Learners may re-enrol on course to extend their period of study, tuition fee payable.
