This course is for people who would like to find out about counselling skills. You will study the definition of counselling and developing self-awareness through skills practice. The course introduces approaches and offers opportunities to practice listening skills - empathy, reflecting, paraphrasing, summarising and focussing.

The course is for learners who wish to progress towards further counselling qualifications, or learners who wish to study this programme in order to complement other programmes - such as health and social care, children's care, learning and development, voluntary and community work.

How will this course be delivered?

NCFE LEVEL 2 AWARD IN HELPING SKILLS

How will I be assessed?

By building up a portfolio of work throughout the course which will include responses to homework questions and worksheets, notes from class discussions, feedback sheets from skills practice sessions and a reflective diary. There is no exam.

What else do I need to know?

Although we will be talking about our personal experiences, courses are not therapeutic groups.
