Where will this course lead?

A Retailer works in a range of job roles within the Retail industry including customer service, cashier, sales assistance, visual merchandiser, stock controller etc.   

Retailers will be able to assist customers when purchasing products and services, have excellent customer service skills / product knowledge and be able to process payments effectively whilst ensuring stock is presented in the most effective way. 

They will also be able to carry out consultations with customers, demonstrating the professionalism, values, behaviours, communication skills and safe working practices associated with the role.

What will I study?

Whilst studying for this qualification you will be developing the knowledge, skills and behaviour that is key to the role.

These may include:

- Customer Service
- Sales techniques
- Stock Control
- Effective communication skills
- Retail industry
- Retail law
- Visual merchandising

You will also need to complete a vocational competence evaluation log.

This log book will be evaluated throughout your programme (behaviours evaluation log) and supports your completion of the end point assessment.

When your employer and the college confirm that you have completed the required studies, you will be entered for an end - point assessment which includes:

- Vocational Competence Discussion 
- Practical assessment
- Multiple Choice exam  

How will this course be delivered?

The apprenticeship programme consists of on-the-job and off-the-job training delivered through college workshops, on-the-job training from your employer, independent study and work-based visits from your assessor.  

What qualifications will I get?

Retailer Apprenticeship Level 2
English and Maths at Level 1 

How will I be assessed?

Assessment is through a variety of ways including observations, professional discussions, verbal or written questions, assignments, presentations, work products, reflective accounts and witness testimonies.

End point assessment is assessed through: 

- Vocational Competence Discussion 
- Practical assessment
- Multiple Choice exam  

How do I get a place on the course?

In order to get a place on the course you need to have secured an apprenticeship position with an employer. Apprenticeship vacancies are advertised on our website and you can follow the instructions to apply online.  The vacancies provide detailed information about the employer, the job role, location, hours of work and salary/benefits.  

What are the entry requirements?

- Entry 3 in English and Maths or GCSE D/5 and above
- Working a minimum of 30 hours/37 hours maximum a week 

What else do I need to know?

In addition you will develop valuable skills in English and Maths. The minimum required level to complete your Level 2 apprenticeship is Level 1 functional skills in English and Maths. If you have already achieved this level you will continue to work towards the next level.

What can I do after this course?
On completion of the apprenticeship, learners will be qualified to work within the retail industry with career progression routes into team leading/ supervisor roles.
