This Awareness of Mental Health course is suitable for anyone who wishes to understand more about mental health conditions for personal enrichment. As well as this, it is an ideal starting point for those that wish to work in health and social care environments or those that wish to move on to study in higher education in the area.
Introduction - What is mental health? Students will look at statistics, common causes and symptoms, stigma, and what you can do to help. Mental health law at work and risk assessment will also be covered.
Types of Mental Health Problem - Students will study an overview of depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder, stress, PTSD, and panic attacks.
Managing a Mental Health Problem - Tips to improve wellbeing will be covered, along with setting goals, peer support, sleep, diet and exercise, mindfulness, taking a break, medication and recovery.
This will be delivered by taught sessions including group discussions.
This is a personal development course.
This course is for personal development and is informally assessed by the tutor with self-assessment and evaluation by the student.

The course is designed as an introduction to mental health and so no pre-requisite knowledge or training is needed.
