Where will this course lead?

This course is ideal for those wishing to learn the basic commercial floristry techniques and designs; either for personal development or as first steps to employment in the floristry industry. Students may wish to enrol on our Intermediate course after completing a year of Floristry Beginners.

What will I study?

Term 1 Autumn Term

Students will learn how to make a range of standard sympathy designs including open and based wreaths. Students will also look at seasonal designs including a garland and Christmas door wreath.

Term 2 Spring Term

This term focuses on weddings accessory designs e.g. buttonholes, corsages, headdresses and a bridesmaids hand tied bouquet.

Term 3 Summer Term

Students will create and design a range of commercial gift work, flowers arrangements and hand tied bouquets suitable for anniversaries, weddings & birthdays.

How will this course be delivered?

It is a practical course with demonstrations every week. There will be handouts and some written work.

What qualifications will I get?

This is a personal development course

How will I be assessed?

This course is for personal development and is informally assessed by the tutor with self-assessment and evaluation by the student.

What are the entry requirements?

Students should be age 19+

What else do I need to know?

Students need to bring their own flowers, foliage and containers etc. Over time they will build up a work box which will be needed most weeks.  Students will also need to supply their own floristry tools such as scissors, knives, ribbons, wires and tapes.

Please note: Materials are not supplied for Cakes, Flowers/Floristry, Textiles, Soft Furnishings, Homemade Crafts, Calligraphy, Art, Cookery, Tiling, Painting & Decorating, Sewing or Dressmaking.

This course will run subject to a minimum class size.

What can I do after this course?

We also offer a range of craft courses for adults, as well as Wider Family Learning courses designed for adults and children to learn together.
