Where will this course lead?

This programme is a programme of training for the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) Chartered Membership Programme (CMP). It is designed for managers in the Built Environment and associated disciplines, with five years of management experience, to progress to Chartered status with the CIOB.

What will I study?

The Programme is made up of 4 modules designed to give you the specialist knowledge and skills required to manage construction projects effectively. The modules are delivered classes and workshops in:

- Construction Technology

- Management

- Contracts and Commercial Practice

- Health, Safety and the Environment

How will this course be delivered?

This course will be delivered online, with weekly sessions taking place, there may be occasional in person attendance required. Candidate can apply and enrol at any time during the Academic year and will stay on programme until they have completed their examinations and submitted their Professional Review.

What qualifications will I get?

Chartered Insitute of Building - Chartered Membership Programme qualifies candidates for Chartership and gives access to the final Professional Review.

Chartered Members qualify for the designated MCIOB Chartered Construction manager or Chartered Builder (Member of the Chartered Institute of Building)

How will I be assessed?

Assessment is made via an Open Book Exam which is carried out at the end of the programme. You will be provided with a construction project scenario and drawings and will answer 4 questions relating to the 4 modules. You will be given 10 days to submit your answer to the questions through the virtual learning environment, Moodle. This allows you to use the resources of your choice to complete your exam.

What are the entry requirements?

Typically, those enrolling on the programme will have worked in a management capacity or role for at least 5 years. However, the programme is also suitable for a wide range of technical and specialist professionals working in the construction industry. The programme also forms a progression route to MCIOB for candidates who have completed the CIOB Site Management Programmes.

What else do I need to know?

Achieving Chartered status carries a responsibility of representing the industry to the highest standards of performance and practice. It says that you have achieved the equivalent of degree level knowledge and experience and are operating at a professional managerial level.

There are additional fees made by the CIOB for registration, exams, and professional review, you will be advised of these fees prior to starting the course.

What can I do after this course?

The Final Stage of Chartership is the completion of the Professional Review. The College will give advice and support on the completion of your Professional Review application. This is an assessment of your occupational and management competence and the final stage of gaining your Chartered membership.
