Where will this course lead?

If you wish to progress on to electrical/electronic technology management or gain professional recognition by progression to Incorporated Engineer Status, then our HNC in Electrical & Electronic Engineering will give you the qualification to do so. You may be able to progress onto the second year of a Foundation Degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Solihull College & University Centre with opportunities to continue to BEng (Hons) degree at our Woodlands Campus Alternatively, you may be able to progress onto similar Foundation Degrees, HNDs or degree programmes at other educational establishments.

What will I study?

To gain the BTEC Level 4 HNC in Electrical and Electronic Engineering qualification you must achieve a minimum of 120 credits through completion of both mandatory and additional optional units which include:

· Engineering Design

· Engineering Maths

· Engineering Science

· Managing a Professional Engineering Project

· Electrical and Electronic Principles

There will be three additional units, but please note that these units may vary:

· Computer Aided Design

· Electronic Circuits and Devices

· Automation, Robotics and Programmable Logic Controllers

The units are chosen to meet the training needs of those employed or interested in a career in industry. Studies include the relevant theory, practical application, and use of computer simulation to design and test electrical/electronic systems. Underpinning knowledge is provided by the study of mathematics, electrical principles, and engineering science. In year 2 you will complete a personal Project, which draws upon knowledge and skills gained on the course.

How will this course be delivered?

The course is delivered through various assignments that cover 120 credits over 2 years these will taught through practical demonstrations, workshops, and lectures. The programme is designed for part time mode of attendance for employed learners.

1 day per week (Part Time) over 2 years.

What qualifications will I get?

You must successfully complete units that equal 120 credits at the end of the course, and you will achieve BTEC Higher National Certificate in Electrical and Electronic Engineering (RQF).

How will I be assessed?

All units are assessed by assignments; each unit assignment is matched to the content of the unit and the criteria being assessed. Each unit will be graded at Pass, Merit or Distinction levels, and then the unit grades will be aggregated by the awarding organisation to give an overall grade of Pass, Merit or Distinction for the whole qualification.

What are the entry requirements?

A level 3 BTEC National Qualification, 4 GCSEs grade C or level 4/5 and above, plus at least one A-Levelor 2AS Levels (32 points), in an appropriate subject (Mathematics/Physics/Chemistry). https://www.ucas.com/undergraduate/what-and-where-study/entry-requirements/ucas-tariff-points

What else do I need to know?

This course is a part time program, and you will be expected to attend 1 day per week between the hours of 09:00 - 18:00, timetables will be issued to successful applicants during induction and enrolment in September of the academic year. It is desirable but not essential to be in employment or have recent employment history in the sector. If you are applying for financial help from Student Finance England, you should do this as soon as possible to ensure your funding is in place for the start of your course. https://www.gov.uk/student-finance.

You will need to provide your own scientific calculator and stationery such as folders, paper, notetaking exercise book, and pens. There indicative cost shown below for typical materials in support of learning:

· Scientific Calculator (approx. £10)

· Optional: Books: £100 for the year with average book price at £15 to £20

· Optional: Printing and binding in the college over and above print allowance (dependent upon page numbers and colour)

· Optional: Laptop/Home computer (required for assessment work and accessing software remotely)

· Optional: Project based costs may be incurred if components are required which are not available through college stock.

· Optional: 3D printing may form part of a project.

Where possible, the college will pay for the printing materials. However, for larger designs, a contribution may be required from the student.
