Where will this course lead?

Students studying the BA Joint Honours will have the opportunity to develop a sound and extensive knowledge base in psychology and criminology, producing a scientific understanding of mind, brain, behaviour and experience and the complex interactions between these. Students will be equipped with knowledge of multiple perspectives and real-life scenarios that will encourage an understanding of complex social problems. On successful completion of the BA Joint Honours students could progress to post-graduate study including MSc programmes for professional practice or higher-level specialist academic study. There are growing opportunities for developmental roles in a wide range of employment within the sector.

How will this course be delivered?

This is a 3-year degree

Term 1 - September - December

Term 2 - December - March

Term 3 - March - June

Each module will be delivered over 10 weeks and require successful completion of formative assessment. Each week you will attend a 3-hour session on each of the modules of study, you will also have access to academic study skills tutorials and personal tutorials should you require further support. The 3-hour sessions are broken down into a 1-hour lecture, a 1-hour research task, and a 1-hour seminar. Independent study is expected outside of timetabled hours to ensure successful achievement. What are the entry requirements?

In addition to passing a formal selection interview, all students must have:

  • 5 GCSE's Grade 4 or above and must include English Language (or Functional Skills Level 2)
  • Level 3 qualification in relevant subject(s) equivalent to 96 UCAS points.
  • T-Level qualification in relevant subject(s) equivalent to 96 UCAS points (an overall 'pass', with a Grade C on the core component)

English language requirements

Students who are non-native English speakers or who have not studied the final two years of school in English but can demonstrate capability in English at a standard commensurate to IELTS 6.0, with a minimum of 5.5 being awarded on individual sections for a level 4, 5 or 6 qualifications may be considered as eligible to apply for the programme.

What else do I need to know?

There is a Work Placement module on level 5, you will need a satisfactory enhanced DBS (DISCLOSURE AND BARRING SERVICE) for this, which will incur additional costs. Students may also wish to purchase key texts and there may be external visit opportunities that will also incur additional costs. Other costs include photocopying and printing and depending on the direction and ambition of your work. We suggest budgeting approximately £250-£300 in the first year.

There will also be additional costs for learning resources such as books, stationary, and for the production of coursework (the cost of this will depend on the direction and ambition of your work but we suggest budgeting approximately £250 for materials and books). (There are no compulsory requirements to purchase books).
