Where will this course lead?

The programme is designed to provide students with a progression route from a level 5 programme related to Sports Science (e.g. a HND in Sport & Exercise Science or an FdSc in Sports Science). The programme seeks to provide students with work based learning opportunities enabling application of course content to employment within the Sports Science industry. Students have several assessment opportunities as a sports scientist to develop the skills of a practitioner. In addition, the programme enables students to use enterprise skills and explore opportunities in relevant employment in the Sports Science industry and the chance to develop their own business strategy.

- Applied Sports Science
- Sport and Exercise Nutrition
- Advanced Lab Techniques
- Integrated Approaches to Training and Performance (Double Module)
- Enterprise Skills for Sports Scientists
- Dissertation (Double Module)

How will this course be delivered?

Learning involves a range of approaches from seminars, workshops, and discussions, to case study analysis and problem-solving activities.

What qualifications will I get?

BSc (Hons) Applied Sports Science awarded by Oxford Brookes University - (120 credits required).

How will I be assessed?

A range of assignment based activities, presentations, practicals and some examinations.

What are the entry requirements?

Students should have at least:
A Foundation Degree in Coaching Science awarded by Oxford Brookes University, successfully gaining 240 credits and usually a 55% grade average.
• A Foundation Degree in Coaching Science or related discipline in Sports Coaching awarded by another University, successfully gaining 240 credits and usually a 55% grade average, subject to individual credit rating by Oxford Brookes University.
• The Higher National Diploma in Sport & Exercise Sciences delivered at Solihull College, successfully gaining 240 credits with a Merit profile at Level 5.
• A Higher National Diploma in Sports Science or a related subject from another institution, successfully gaining 240 credits with a Merit profile at Level 5, subject to individual credit rating by Oxford Brookes University and completion of certain core units.
• GCSE Mathematics & English Language at 4/C grade minimum.
• Students for whom English is not their main language also need to show that their English is at a high enough level to succeed in their studies by achieving a score in a recognised test.
• IELTS 6.0 (with 6.0 in reading and writing, 5.5 in listening and speaking
• A current DBS will be required.

What else do I need to know?

This course is a full time program and you will be expected to attend 3 days per week between the hours of 9-5, timetables will be issued to successful applicants prior to induction and enrolment in September of the current Academic year.

Work Placement - During the academic year, students will be expected to source and work with athletes for two of the modules detailed above. You will be given further details during the commencement of the programme.

Is there anything else I will have to pay for in order to do this course?
You will be need to access the relevant text books and learning resources provide all basic stationery including pens, pencils, paper, plastic wallets, folders and for the production of coursework

Apply for a postgraduate qualification such as a Masters degree or if teaching is a preferred career then PGCE.
