Monday, 11 July, 2016

Employers from across the region were recently invited in to Solihull College & University Centre’s Blossomfield Campus to celebrate the achievement of the College’s Professional Construction students.

The Professional Construction Awards ceremony featured both the College’s apprentices and those enrolled on full time courses. Trophies were awarded for achievement and for outstanding commitment to the profession.

Employers such as Arup, Buckingham Group Contracting, Clancy Consulting, WSP Parsons Brinckerhoff and J S Wright & Co sponsored prizes and were in attendance along with the Institution of Civil Engineers and the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers.

The College works closely with employers across different sectors to ensure courses and apprenticeships meet the needs of industry.

Andrew Schneider, Head of School for Science & Built Environment comments: “The awards demonstrated the strength of commitment from employers in this sector to support the training and development of the next generation of Civil and Building Services Engineers. To also have both of the professional bodies, The Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) and Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE) present and sponsoring awards for apprentices who have demonstrated commitment to their profession further illustrates how important and highly valued these apprenticeships are”.

Nigel Hailey, Director at Arup comments: “Arup were delighted to sponsor the Apprentice of the Year for Civil Engineering Award. It is important to us that our apprentices are well trained, both through formal education and in the workplace. Our partnership with the College allows this to happen. It was great to see all the students, to celebrate their success and support the next generation of engineers”.
