Where will this course lead?

This course is the second level of the full AAT qualification covering more advanced elements of book-keeping and costing. It is ideal for you if you are currently working and have studied L2 AAT or its equivalent.

What will I study?

The course consists of the following Units:
- Advanced Bookkeeping
- Final Accounts Preparation
- Management Accounting: Costing
- Indirect Tax
- Ethics for Accountants
- Spreadsheets for Accounting

In addition as an apprentice you will need to study functional skills in Maths and English at level 2 unless you have an exemption. (Exemptions are offered for GCSEs at grade A-C in the last five years)
You will also complete an "Employer Rights and Responsibilities Workbook" during the course.

How will this course be delivered?

Apprenticeship students will participate with the standard Level 3 AAT students in any of the classes available. Lessons will involve workshops, lectures, group work, directed study, computer packages, tutorials and individual work. An assessor will visit your workplace every eight weeks to review your progress.

How will I be assessed?

To pass this qualification you will complete online exams and computer based tests.

How do I get a place on the course?

Places are offered by interview only. Once your application has been received a member of staff will visit your workplace to discuss the course with you and your employer. This will involve an initial assessment of your Maths and English skills to ensure you are at the correct level for the course.

What are the entry requirements?

You will have completed AAT L2 Certificate in Accounting or its equivalent.
If you are applying based on previous work experience you will be asked to complete a diagnostic test to ensure that you have the under pinning knowledge to be successful at this level.

The standard course runs from September to June in college, but you will be enrolled on the apprenticeship for a minimum of one year.
It is a requirement of the Apprenticeship programme that your employer is involved in your training to the extent that they will be visited periodically from a member of our Apprenticeship Liaison Team to discuss your progress.

What else do I need to know?

A minimum of 90% attendance is expected.

What can I do after this course?

Students who are successful on this course may gain promotion or extra responsibility within their organisation. Successful students who meet the attendance requirements will be offered a place on the AAT Professional Diploma in Accounting.
