Where will this course lead?

This course may lead you on to selling your craft items online or other business outlets.

What will I study?

Upcycling Using Craft Skills: Rejuvenate used items: paper, clothes, materials and cushions to containers and small pieces of furniture. Learn new skills that help with sustainability and could lead to small business opportunities.

In class we will discuss appropriate items and how best to use them for the various projects and where you may obtain them. Start saving up brown paper, cardboard, wallpaper, card, wrapping paper, ribbons, buttons, wool, twine, coloured thread and embroidery thread, old keys, lego, old CD's, picture frames as this will be a good start to upcycling.

Learn to develop: design ideas and planning, decision making, layout, colour coordination and thinking about who will use your end product. You will learn crafting and technical skills together with soft skills to help you expand your knowledge of processing an initial craft idea to fruition.

Weeks 1-4 Making a Tray with Decoupage. Please bring: old picture frame, hard board to size of outer picture frame, card, cardboard, twine, scissors, glue and pva glue, cellotape, apron, colourful wallpaper and magazines to cut up, colourful napkins, wrapping paper. Small hammer and tacks, wood glue. Your own sketch pad (no smaller than A3), pencils, rubber, sharpener, pen, apron or old shirt to protect your clothes.

Weeks 5-8 Cheats Jewellery. Please bring: old, broken, discarded jewellery, jewellery findings and tools, other items and materials which will be discussed on Week 4 e.g. silver clay, polymer clay.
