Award recognition for College’s Employer Services team
Thursday, 16 January, 2014

With apprenticeships gaining more momentum among school leavers than in recent years, Solihull College has been recognised for their work in helping to produce skilled apprentices. The College’s Employer Services team has been shortlisted by the Time Education Supplement (TES) Further Education Awards 2014 for employer engagement, specifically in regards to their relationship with one of the UK’s fastest growing caterers, Amadeus.

The College and the Birmingham based caterer, Amadeus started working together in 2012, when the need for high calibre workers was recognised. The College successfully delivers a range of apprenticeships and coupled with industry growth in the West Midlands, including Resorts World Birmingham, there was pressure for the NEC Group to bring in skilled workers.
Shaun Hindle, Senior Director for Employment and Skills at the College comments: â??This is an exciting time to be producing skilled apprentices in the West Midlands and we are proud of the partnership with Amadeus, helping them fulfil a vital business need. The team have shown a great amount of dedication in the relationship with Amadeus which we look forward to taking from strength to strength in 2014â?.

Amadeus serves the NEC Group which operates four venues: the NEC, LG Arena, the ICC and the NIA. During the Amadeus apprenticeship – which started in 2013, young people work to gain an Intermediate Apprenticeship in Hospitality which includes professional food preparation and cooking service.

Along with Amadeus, Solihull College is proud to have strong relationships with many other local businesses across Solihull and Birmingham including Jaguar Land Rover, Arup, Mansell Construction and Birmingham Airport. The College recently reinforced its commitment to industry in the West Midlands by building an £8.5 million state-of-the-art motor vehicle and construction centre at its Woodlands Campus in Smith’s Wood.
