OR
COLLEGE OFFERS ADVICE TO PROSPECTIVE STUDENTS
Thursday, 9 August, 2018

Solihull College & University Centre is opening its doors this summer to offer advice to those taking the next step towards college or university.

On Tuesday 21st August between 2-6pm at Blossomfield Campus, the College will be welcoming students to offer advice and guidance with regards to university level options available following A-Level results the previous week. This academic year new higher education courses are available at the College including a Networking & Security degree in collaboration with the University of Northampton.

On Thursday 23rd August, 9am-6pm and Friday 24th August, 9am-4pm those who have just received their GCSE results are invited to attend the School Leaver Advice Days at Blossomfield and Woodlands Campus. With many options available post GCSE, what to do next can be a difficult decision for many. The College’s Student Services team will be able to give impartial advice and guidance about the options available.

Solihull College & University Centre’s School leaver Advice Days are aimed at new applicants only. Those holding existing offers need to attend their course specific induction date which will be sent to them directly.

The College aims to show students that a vocational qualification such as a BTEC can take them forward to the career or university course they want. The College’s vocational courses are designed with both employment and university in mind. Students gain the skills, knowledge and experience necessary to lead them into the career of their choice. The College speaks directly with employers to ensure courses are tailored to industry needs. Level 3 Extended Diplomas are equivalent to 3 A-levels, meaning students can progress to university on completion of their course or stay at the College to complete their degree. Courses are assessed largely through coursework and practical assessment rather than end of term exams like A-Levels. Students also gain valuable work experience with vocational qualifications and the College has links with a number of local employers to ensure work experience develops knowledge and skills within the industry.

With a whole range of courses available at a variety of levels, from engineering to animal management, there is a course and route for everyone. As well as vocational courses, the College has a range of apprenticeships on offer in a variety of different industries offering students the chance to learn on the job, gain their qualification and earn whilst they do so.
