David progresses with his apprenticeship
Thursday, 17 March, 2016

David Alexander was working as a sales assistant at the UK’s largest independent toy retailer The Entertainer when he began his level 2 retail apprenticeship. Upon completion of his level 2 apprenticeship the managers at The Entertainer were able to see his potential and he was promoted to a supervisor at the store in Solihull.

It was then recommended that David continue with his learning by beginning his level 3 retail apprenticeship so he could progress within the company and within his career.

David comments “I always want to improve and with an apprenticeship you can learn a lot and apply what you learn to your every day job. I know now exactly what I need to do in situations rather than wondering what the answer was.”

“You gain your qualification and receive excellent support from the College. You not only develop within your career but you develop personally; your confidence grows massively.”

David, who also completed his functional skills qualification with Solihull College, completed his level 3 apprenticeship and was recognised for his hard work by being awarded with the retail apprentice of the year during his time of study. David was able to complete his studies whilst continuing to work full-time and bring up his young family, he added “the apprenticeship doesn’t take over your life, you can manage your time whilst studying and working.”

David now hopes to develop his career further by fulfilling his ambition of becoming an assistant manager within a retail store and feels his recognised qualification and the knowledge he has gained will support him to achieve this.
