Where will this course lead?

This is an enjoyable and varied course for all levels of writers. It will cover the basic craft of Creative Writing. You will also have the opportunity to try out different genres if you wish such as; Autobiography, Writing for Magazines, The Short Story, Flash Fiction, Writing for Radio, and Poetry.

What will I study?

The course content will depend on the students and their experiences and interests. It is likely to cover:-

- Writing exercises: there will be plenty of writing exercises and discussion. The aim of the course is to start you writing (if you haven't already) and to keep you writing. Writing exercises are a great way to keep you motivated
- The Craft of Creative Writing
- Show not Tell
- Characterisation
- Plot
- Dialogue
- Setting
- Point of View
- Editing
- Presentation and Publication
- (Homework optional)


Constructive feedback will be given by the tutor and by the group. Some people are more confident about feedback than others and you will not be expected to read your work until you feel you are ready to share it.

You will also experiment with some other genres if you wish to, such as Autobiography, Poetry, Flash Fiction, Writing for Magazines, and Writing for Radio.

Delivery is classroom based and designed to develop an individuals writing style.

This course is delivered at various venues throughout the year.

What qualifications will I get?

This is a personal enrichment course.

How will I be assessed?

This course is for personal development and is informally assessed by the tutor with self-assessment and evaluation by the student.
