Where will this course lead?

This course is ideal for beginners or for those with some experience; it also makes an excellent refresher.

It is an ideal first step and can lead to employment as a cake decorator or become self employed offering cakes for special occasions.

What will I study?

Each term you will cover a wide range of decorative techniques and styles using - sugar paste, marzipan, royal icing and butter cream icing.

- Autumn term - Modelling cake top decorations, Novelty Halloween, and Christmas cakes and a quick traditional cake.
-Spring Term - More modelling of cake top decorations, including a very small amount of sugarcraft flowers and piping technics.  You will also be making a Novelty Valentine, Easter/spring cake.
- Summer Term - More modelling for cake top decorations including a very small amount of sugarcraft flowers.  Men's Novelty cakes, other Novelty cakes suitable for birthdays or weddings.


How will this course be delivered?

Practical class based work lead by tutor demonstration; some designs may have to be completed at home.

This course is offered at various venues throughout the year.

What qualifications will I get?

Non-externally-certificated non-FE other provision, Crafts, Creative Arts and Design SSA (09.2)

How will I be assessed?

This course is for personal development and is informally assessed by the Tutor with self assessment and evaluation by the student.

What are the entry requirements?

You must be aged 19+

If you have Learning Difficulty or Disability please let us know when you apply. You will be offered support in your interview. If you need help completing your application we can help with this too.

What else do I need to know?

The tutor will inform you on the first session of any tools and equipment that are required. She will also have a list of suppliers where these will be available. You can use ready-made cakes or dummies to decorate.

Please note: Materials are not supplied for Cakes, flowers/floristry, Textiles, Soft furnishings, Stained glass, Homemade Crafts, Calligraphy, Art, Cookery, Tiling, painting & Decorating, Sewing and Dressmaking.

Students are responsible for providing their own ingredients and some equipment.
