Where will this course lead?

These courses are not for persons considering a professional trade in a specific skill area, but may be useful as a taster for those who are uncertain whether or not to pursue a particular trade. The course will also provide some practical assistance for most DIY tasks and overcoming basic problems.

What will I study?

- Carpentry - cutting basic joints, and cutting skirting boards. Fitting hinges and mortice locks
- Brickwork - building a pyramid wall and a corner with a return.
- Plastering - fixing plasterboard and skimming.
- Decorating - hanging wall paper.
- Tiling - cutting and fixing wall ties and problem solving.

How will this course be delivered?

This course is practical and very hands-on, with very little written work.

What qualifications will I get?

This is a recreational course only

How will I be assessed?

The course is for personal development and is informally assessed by the tutor with self-evaluation by the student.

What are the entry requirements?

Students must be aged 19+.

What else do I need to know?

All students are required to wear appropriate clothing for light construction work including protective footwear (steel capped shoes/boots).

The tutor will inform you on the first session of any tools and equipment that are required. They will also have a list of suppliers where these will be available.

Please note: Materials are not supplied for Cakes, Flowers/Floristry, Textiles, Soft Furnishings, Homemade Crafts, Calligraphy, Art, Cookery, Tiling, Painting & Decorating, Sewing or Dressmaking.

This course will run subject to a minimum class size.
